The Public Management Research Association invites applications for a new editorial team for its journal Perspectives on Public Management and Governance. The new editors will assume responsibility July 1, 2027.

About the Journal

Perspectives on Public Management and Governance (PPMG) is one of two official journals of PMRA, which provides the scholarly community base and conference network around it. Oxford University Press manages production and distribution via its Oxford Academic platform.

PPMG is dedicated to theory development and conceptual work challenging and advancing the field of public affairs — new theories, frameworks, and conceptual models, as well as summative and critical evaluations of existing theoretical frameworks. It welcomes contributions from a variety of epistemological frameworks, including positivist, normative, interpretive, grounded, and critical theory approaches, and is also interested in analytical reviews of literature.

Editorial Responsibilities

Editors are expected to:

  • Set and communicate a clear scholarly vision for the journal
  • Oversee the peer-review process and ensure high editorial standards
  • Appoint and work with any associate editors and the editorial board
  • Promote the journal within the global public management community
  • Collaborate closely with PMRA and the publisher

The term is five years, renewable once, in line with PMRA practice.

Who Should Apply

PMRA encourages applications from:

  • Individual editors or editorial teams
  • Scholars with strong publication records in public management and governance
  • Candidates demonstrating editorial experience and intellectual leadership

Application Materials

  • A cover letter describing the applicant(s), motivation, and editorial vision (max. 5 pages)
  • CV(s) of the applicant(s)
  • A proposed editorial team structure (including associate editors, if applicable)
  • A Letter of Institutional Support from the Dean of the College (or equivalent), confirming institutional support and describing administrative/financial support and commitment of faculty time
