PMRA Future 2027 Awards Season

The Public Management Research Association will open the 2027 Awards Season in advance of the Public Management Research Conference to be held at Corvinus University in Budapest, Hungary June 2 to 5, 2027.

PMRA awards reflect the scholarly strength of the field and recognize contributions that continue to shape the direction of public management research. The 2026 awards portfolio includes honors for doctoral research, career contributions, journal publications, and doctoral student inclusion.

All award recipients will be featured in the May conference edition of Management Matters and recognized during the PMRC Awards Ceremony slated for June 4, 2027.

Career, Research, & Conference Awards
Best Dissertation Award
The award that goes to the doctoral work that makes the field sit up — recognizing dissertations for their theoretical grounding, methodological rigor, and relevance to public management research. The 2026 award includes a $750 USD cash award. This award requires a nomination. Read more.

H. George Frederickson Award
PMRA’s highest honor, named for the scholar who insisted public administration ask “for whom?” — recognizing a career of sustained, field-shaping contribution. This award requires a nomination. Read more.

Meier PMRC Travel Award
Named for a scholar who proved that who’s in the room changes the outcome, this award funds doctoral students facing financial hardship or academic barriers so they can attend PMRC. This award requires an application. Read more.

Best Journal Article Awards
Avellaneda Award
PMRA’s newest award, given once every three years, for the best article on the Global South — the first of its kind for the association. The inaugural award was presented in 2026 for eligible articles published between 2021 and 2025. The 2026 award includes a $500 USD cash award. Read more.
Beryl Radin Award
Best article in JPART, decided every year since the mid-2000s and one of the most competitive honors in the field. Selected annually by the award committee and presented at PMRC. Read more.
Camilla Stivers Award
Best article in PPMG on gender, diversity, or equity, named for the scholar who rewrote the field’s origin story. Read more.
Riccucci-O’Leary Award
Best article on diversity in JPART or PPMG, carrying the names of two scholars who never let the field look away from hard questions. The 2026 award includes a $500 USD cash award. Read more.
